How to Become a Christian

Understanding the importance of salvation

Jesus bought us out of enslavement by paying our ransom! Enslavement to what?

Slavery to sin, including its afterlife of physical death and eternal alienation from God. Why was this ransom required of Jesus? Since everyone has a sin problem (Romans 3:23), we should all expect judgment from God (Romans 6:23).

How did Jesus pay our ransom?

By sacrificing himself on the cross to atone for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

How could the death of Jesus be enough to atone for all of our sins?

Jesus was God manifested as a human, coming to our world to identify with us and atone for our sins (John 1:1,14). As God, Jesus’ death had infinite worth and was sufficient to atone for all of humanity’s sins (1 John 2:2). After dying, Jesus was raised from the dead, proving that His death served as a sufficient atonement and that He had indeed conquered both sin and death.

God has made becoming a Christian simple because of His love for us. All you have to do is embrace Jesus as your Savior, fully believing in Him and accepting His death as the only adequate atonement for your sins (John 3:16).

The most important aspect of becoming a Christian is having a close relationship with Jesus. A person becomes a Christian through faith and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Steps to getting saved/becoming a Christian

1. Believe

Believe in your heart that Jesus is the Son of God and came from heaven to earth to die for your sins and that only He can save you (Acts 16:31)

2. Repent

Repentance means to turn away from your sins. Decide that you no longer want to sin and that you want Jesus to help you overcome your sins (Acts 3:19)

3. Confess your sins

Pray and ask God for forgiveness of your sins.

(1 John 1:9, Matthew 3:6)

4. Confess Jesus as Lord and Savior

Confess that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior and that He is the Son of God (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 2:21)

5. Baptism

Get baptized by immersing in water (Mark 16:16; John 3:5). Go to a biblical church in your area to get baptized by a pastor.

Do you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

Accept Him before it is too late.

I still have doubts and have more questions.

I am ready to accept Jesus and become a Christian.
